News is spreading fast of numerous high-end domains being stolen from a well-known domainer on NamePros and DNForum. The stolen domains include an LLL.com, MAJ.com. The methodology of the domain thief seems to have been to hijack the person’s hotmail email address and then gain access to his domain registrar account.
Would this have happened if the domain owner did not use a free email provider as his main whois email?
The answer is possibly. The thief could have also gained access if the person had a virus or spyware infecting his computer. But most likely the fragility of hotmail, gmail and other free email services is to blame.
