Blogging has been put on hold for a while as business is the #1 priority at Nomzo. Some good news to share – We’ve recently had our 2nd biggest domain sale ever. Coming only a week after Ron Beckstrom touted .net to be worthless (April fo<del datetime="2010-04-04T11:19:40+00:00">ols</del>urth – he didn’t really), we went and sold a short brandable .net for 1500% ROI!

In other news, Google has updated PageRank and Nomzo.com has jumped to PR3. Seeing that PageRank is largely irrelevant these days it’s probably not worth reporting, but hey ho, we like to celebrate!

Browsing through Twitter I stumbled across the sale of an established web design blog. The site has a lot going for it – decent traffic, PageRank 5, and a small amount of revenue. The main thing that stood out was that it is underachieving.

Overview

The site itself is http://www.webdesignerhelp.co.uk. It has strong foundations with a great generic domain name.

Other plus points:

Existing revenue through multiple channels (advertising and link sales)

Comes with a Twitter account with 1000+ followers.

PR5

Bad points:

Owner has pimped it out before the sale by selling links to unrelated sites. This could drop the PageRank in future updates.

No proof of traffic or revenue.

It’s on Digital Point, which has more scammers than most forums.

Traffic quality is not great, stumble upon, facebook, twitter et al does not convert as well as search engine traffic.

Good Investment?

This is a safe investment. The buyer can improve the design, increase content creation, increase traffic and then flip the domain in a short period for a nice profit. Or sit the site for a while and recoup the initial outlay over a longer period. The one determining factor which stops us from buying the site is the extra workload.

The auction is underway with a high bid of $800, BIN Price is $2,500.

You can visit the auction here on Digital Point.

Google has registered the domain name HaitiEarthquake.com.

The domain HaitiEarthquake.com now redirects to http://www.google.com/relief/haitiearthquake/, where Google is asking visitors to support to the disaster relief effort in Haiti. With the news that Google is donating $1 million are two prominent links to UNICEF and CARE, two well known charities, and several links to other charities.

For those wanting to donate, here’s a great option that you can do in seconds:

    * SMS text “HAITI” to 90999 to donate $10 to Red Cross relief efforts
* SMS text “YELE” to 501501 to Donate $5 to Yele Haiti’s Earthquake Relief efforts

Natural disasters are horrific. No doubt you’ve seen the sad news about the massive earthquake which hit the Caribbean island of Haiti, causing devastation and huge loss of life.

Donating to a charity is definitely one way to help the people of Port au Prince. There’s a fantastic post on DNForum about what domainers can do to help in another way. Member ‘companyone’ suggested the idea of registering domain names related to the disaster in order to forward visitors to charity websites, such as the Red Cross. This is an excellent idea as not only will increase the amount of donations for Haiti, it will stop domainers getting brandished as cyber-squatters or scammers. Saying that, the idea only exists because there are scammers and fraudsters in the World. If you find somebody with a fake charity website, please report it to authorities straight away.

Sedo has revealed a new web design to cement their position as the number one domain sales platform. It’s really top notch!

Check it out here – Sedo’s new design

The old design was… well, old. It was dominated by white and was slow-loading. The new Sedo design is much fresher with a cool Scandinavian blue colour theme. Beautiful smiling faces are always a winner, and Sedo doesn’t hold back, there’s numerous stunning women flashing their pearly white teeth. Other new improvements are an Ajax coded Featured domains section.

The backend has a much better overview showing financials for the month and year, which is great motivation to increase domain sales pitches, just to see the numbers increase!

Look out for a lengthier review when the domain management panel has been explored further.

Back in August we mentioned the impressive sale of Brazil.com for $500,000, well this latest sale of Russia.com trumps that by 300%. Still, the new owner with this acquisition has essentially captured a massive portion of English speakers who are interested in Russia, interested in travelling to Russia, booking flights and hotels. The advertising revenue potential of Russia.com is incredible. Plaudits go to decision maker with the courage to spend big!
