Don’t sell your domains too soon

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

It’s a difficult time in the domain market due to the global economic climate. When times are tough there is always the temptation to sell your domains quickly and cheaply. We advocate a different approach. Now is the time to hold, and if financially secure, now is definitely the time to buy, buy, buy. Many domain owners are in a similar predicament, people are not buying and those registration fees are mounting up. Clarity and confidence is needed. Long term – there is only one way domain prices and internet properties are going, and that is UP!

Selling on Domain Forums

Sunday, May 24th, 2009

Domain forums are excellent resources to learn about the domain market and keep up to date with the latest domain name news. They are also an option if you want to liquidize your domain portfolio quickly. The main drawback of selling your domains on forums such as NamePros or DNForum is that you will likely only receive a fraction of the price that you could reasonably expect an end user to pay. The reason for this is simple, domain forums are populated by domain resellers, and thus they buy with the intention to resell and make a profit.

Typically, it is new domainers who sell exclusively via domain forums. This is understandable at first glance, as it’s quick, easy and initially fun. There comes a point in a domainer’s learning curve that he or she realizes they are leaving a big amount of money on the table using this method. First hand experience of this occured when I purchased a domain for $120 and sold it within 2 weeks for $700, only to find a more experienced domainer sell it on to an end user for $2,500 a week later.

The underlying message is this – if you plan to sell, research potential end users and sell on domain forums as the last option.

In with the new

So the old Nomzo news section was a little archaic with no place to share comments (or bash the author :D ). We are now using WordPress in order to make our news updates more interactive. You also have the option to subscribe via RSS.

The new url for the news section is nomzo.com/blog – pretty easy to remember.

At this time we have not combined the news section with your Nomzo account. If you would like to post comments to news articles, you’ll need to register a fresh account.
